Amer Yachts ditches fibreglass in favour of sustainable materials

Permare Groups Amer Yachts has announced it is ditching fibreglass in an effort to commit to sustainable yacht production.

Instead, the builder has committed to constructing yachts out of the volcanic fibre Filava, which is composed of enriched basalt.

Unlike fibreglass, the material is completely recyclable, with Amer claiming it can be recycled indefinitely.

To mark its commitment to innovative eco construction, the Italian builder has signed an agreement with GS4C, the exclusive agent for the material in Europe.

GS4C will also design and build the first non-structural Filava based element that will feature in the yards next new superyacht.
